"For people who are unfamiliar with how the Tukwila City Council works -- Most issues first come before a Council committee where they are discussed and, if necessary, revised. When the 3 committee members vote to bring the issue before the entire…"

Qualities of a Good Councilmember

I totally agree with the points below, taken from an article in the Bainbridge Island Review written by Bainbridge Island Mayor Val Tollefson. Just substitute "Tukwila" for "Bainbridge," and it totally works.http://www.bainbridgereview.com/opinion/invest-in-your-community-by-volunteering-for-public-service-guest-viewpoint/In addition to a passion for Bainbridge…See More

Money and Local Politics

Before local election campaigns begin, I’d like to weigh in on the issue of money in local politics. By local politics, I mean races for city, school, and special district offices. As someone who has run campaigns for school levy and bonds, a local annexation, and as a local candidate, I would like to explain some of the realities of local campaigns. The dollar amounts it takes to run for local office have changed immensely over the years. Voters used to be suspicious of any campaign literature…See More

Pam Carter commented on Chuck Parrish's blog post 'Do you have what it takes to run for office?'
"Thanks for this thoughtful posting. Many people do not realize the amount of time required to be a City Councilmember. I remember being told as a college freshman that I should expect to study 2 hours for each hour spent in class. Using that same…"

Feminine Hygiene supplies needed!

A Foster HS alum, Erin McGibbon Smith, saw the article posted below and wondered if we have a similar problem in Tukwila. FHS Principal Pat Larson replied that they do have supplies at school, but it can be a problem for students when they go home. In response to Erin's query if it would help to have people bring in supplies, Pat said, "Yes!!"So you know what we have to do now -- let's see how many boxes of pads & tampons we can bring in to our Tukwila schools. I'm guessing the greatest…See More

Did you know there is nowhere to return a ballot for free in Tukwila? There is no permanent ballot box located in Tukwila, and for voters without transportation who live near S 144th ST and Tukwila International Blvd, it would take at least 30…
