Building a better community every day!
I recently looked up our local candidates' filings with the Public Disclosure Commission (PDC) and was rather dismayed. All candidates are required to file campaign finance info with the PDC within 2 weeks of filing for office or declaring their candidacy. Since filing for office closed on May 17, all candidates should have filed by May 31. Surprisingly, only two City or School District candidates, De'Sean Quinn & Mary Fertakis, managed to meet that deadline.
De'Sean Quinn February 2012
Mary Fertakis May 28
Verna Seal June 13
Alicia Waterton June 13
Allan Ekberg June 15
Jennifer Johnson June 27
Bobby Cruz July 10
Joe Duffie July 16
John Barbee had not filed as of July 23
I also noticed that the City candidates listed varying filing fees when they opted for Mimi-Reporting. (DeSean is using the Full Reporting option.) According to the King County election website, the filing fee is 1% of the office's annual salary so at a Council salary of $1,050/month the filing fee should be $126. Joe Duffie came closest listing $125, Verna Seals claimed $141.68, and Allan Ekberg claimed $75. The School Board doesn't have an annual salary so its candidates do not pay a filing fee.
Yes, of course this is nitpicking. But these are people who are asking for our vote and are asking us to trust their good judgement.
