Building a better community every day!
Tukwila Village, the proposed "center" for Tukwila will soon break ground. With this new development, there is palpable excitement regarding other possible redevelopments.
One item that is often mentioned when talking about new construction in Tukwila is the need for more / diverse grocery store options. Now is your chance to voice your opinion. Follow the attached link and take a quick survey on your current and desired grocery shopping habits. Results from this survey will be sent to the economic development office at the city. We can even post the results here, on Tukwila Talk.
The survey will close on January 15th, 2013.
Please, let your voice be heard, you never know what it could lead to....

Comment by Karen Elizabeth Gilbreath on December 23, 2012 at 5:00pm It finally worked
I just took the survey. Would love to see a grocery store along Interurban, either along casino row, or north of there in the vicinity of Jack in the Box and BECU. Would like to have something more readily accessible between Old Tukwila Hill and Allentown.
Comment by Chuck Parrish on December 24, 2012 at 10:01am Kim's idea is kind of interesting. Would not have thought of that. I have heard the same rumor that Sharon Mann has heard about Tukwila Trading Company. If, in fact, that store closes then TIB seems like a better location. Remember the Larry's that was on the north side of S 144th..then moved to the south side of 144th and then eventually replaced with Tukwila Trading Company? For years, there has always been a grocery store in that area, probably due to the high density population there and the main thoroughfare. Interurban is also a main thoroughfare. It is a bit of a drive for those who live on the Hill and that do not shop at Target or Seafood City.
Marie and I usually visit Safeway or Fred Meyer but would certainly prefer to see our tax dollars stay in Tukwila.
I also like Kim's idea of something along the Interurban corridor.
Comment by Gerry Myklebust on December 25, 2012 at 5:37am Kim & Chuck-
We actually used to have a grocery store on Interurban Ave. S. The store was about where Galliano's is now. It was a little before my time, but I remember people talking about how much they missed having one there. Maybe with a little more dense population in the area something could work in that area again. If you check out the photographs in City Hall, there should be one with the store in it.
Comment by Emily Willoughby on December 25, 2012 at 12:47pm Well I have lived here in Tukwila for about 30 years and I remember when Southcenter was quite a bit different, including a small grocery store and a drug store in there. In addition, there was a grocery store on Military Road where it connects with Pac. Highway where the car rental place is now.
