Building a better community every day!
Had a great week visiting the sights of Chicago. A special thanks to Ellen Gengler. She recommended that I read Devil in the White City by Erik Larson. Great book about the 1893 Chicago Columbian Exposition (aka world's fair) AND the presence of a murdering predator. True story. The book is a great read. It stimulated me to find out where this Exposition was held (Jackson Park) and whether or not there are any remaining architectural artifacts. Turns out that a good part of the HUGE Museum of Science and Industry came about, in part, due complete refurbishment of a building constructed for the Exposition. Also, a portion of the Art Institute had the same background. There is a Smith Museum of Stained Glass at the Navy Pier. Here I found 2-3 pieces that were presented at the Exposition.
Anyway, Ellen's suggestion to read the book added greatly to my enjoyment of Chicago on this trip. Thank you, Ellen.
