New Catholic Church Coming to Tukwila?

The Corporation of the Catholic Archbishop of Seattle acquired the flex building at 6801 S. 180th St. in Tukwila, WA from Lily Point Investments for $5.9 million, or about $95 per square foot.

The 62,250-square-foot industrial flex building was constructed in 1973, and the Archbishop of Seattle plans to convert the building into a church.

Michael Hemphill and Thomas Posey of The Andover Company represented Lily Pointe Investments. Joe Borden of Lorig Associates LLC handled the deal for the buyer.

This is really interesting. There is a light at the intersection where Taco Time is located adjacent to Home Depot. This property is on the south side of that light and is in the area where the river forms a tight loop. I am trying to remember the name of the company that was there before. In fact, a representative of that company was a participant in COPCAB for a while. The building that is on the south side of 180th and just off the curb (SW corner of that intersection) is....if I remember correctly..an administrative center for one of the larger banking institutions in the area. I don't know what days and what times Catholic congregations come together. Could make for congested driving at times with Costco, Home Depot and the major intersection of S 180th St and W Valley Hwy one block away. Thanks for posting this, Ellen.

Parking is another issue. If I'm remembering correctly, since this is a change in use, they would need to meet parking requirements which are based on the number of pews. A church could do this for Sunday services by having a shared parking agreement whereby it utilized the parking of adjacent businesses that are closed in the evenings and on weekends. Don't know if the City would go for that because there are church events such as funerals that occur during the workday.
