Thorndyke Reading Rebels win regional reading challenge!

Since October 2012 over 1800 students in King County have been participating in KCLS’s Global Reading Challenge and on March 4, the Reading Rebels from Thorndyke Elementary in the Tukwila School District won the Central Region Challenge!

The Reading Rebels will challenge 3 other regions on Friday, March 22 at the KCLS Service Center in Issaquah in a bid to take home the winning trophy. The Grand Challenge begins at 10am with guest speaker Trudi Truitt. Truitt will also sign copies of No Girls Allowed (Dogs OK) for each team member.

Thorndyke has participated before, but this year was the first time new Library Media Specialist Mary Djaboury and Teacher Lauren McClelland, were introduced to GRC, so it’s particularly exciting that one of their teams is participating in the Grand Challenge. It’s also impressive that half the team members are ELL students. Way to go, Thorndyke! Good luck!

Way to go, Thorndyke! They beat our Tukwila Elementary team, but now we wish them the best of luck in bringing home the trophy!
