Tukwila Talk

Building a better community every day!

I was visiting the community center this morning and ran into Kathy Hougardy. She was there for diversity training. I glanced into the room and saw the mayor, the administrator, department heads and many others getting this training. Warms my heart to see our employees and elected individuals working on doing a better job and serving our diverse community skillfully. Excellent!

The real work on diversity is in the community, not in a training session. I would like to see our elected officials and city staff where the people are, not the trainers. Training is helpful only as a tool; it is not an end.

To that, I would like to extend my appreciation to the teachers and staff at our schools. Everyday they are surrounded by our diverse population, and work to achieve success for all students.

Thank you Tukwila teachers, coaches, students, admin, clerks, officials, service providers, principals, lunch room workers, custodians, aides and everyone at the schools!
